2008 Veterans in Business Conference On Target!June 20, 2008 was a great day to be a veteran in business. Why? That’s the day that CBP hosted its third – and best by far -- annual Veterans in Business Conference. Over 120 attendees enjoyed the beautiful facilities at Freddie Mac’s headquarters in Tysons Corner, and participated in informative and timely workshops, networked at the Market Place, spent quality time with key government contracts decision makers, enjoyed a scrumptious lunch and an excellent keynote speaker. What a day! Workshops included “Cracking the Federal Procurement Code,” “Strategic Partnerships: The Good the Bad and the Ugly,” “Transitional Leadership Skills: From General Officer to General Manager,” “Pricing to Win,” and “Identifying Sources of Working Capital.” Following the workshops, one of the highlights of the conference was the opportunity to interact in small groups with key decision makers from the US Department of Homeland Security, SAIC, BAE Systems, Freddie Mac, US Geological Survey, US Navy, US Army, VA Procurement Technical Assistance Program, General Service Administration (GSA), Air Force and Capital One. The keynote speaker was Scott Denniston, Director of the Center for Veterans Enterprise and Office of Small and Disadvantage Business Utilization, US Department from Veterans Affairs. Scott, always a dynamic speaker, shared key developments and VA initiatives to support veteran owned businesses with the audience. Special thanks go to CBP Board members Diane Dempsey from BAE Systems and Jay Inouye from Freddie Mac for all their hard work, and sponsorships that helped make this event a truly special day. Other event sponsors included Sun Trust Bank, Northrop Grumman, Exxon Mobil, Signs by Saenz, Enterprise Car Rental and Capital One. Although the conference has grown each of the past three years, it was once again a sell-out. We have already began work on next year’s event which promises to be even bigger and better! Comments from the audience included: “Great organization, good info in the sessions!” “My first time. Great event, very well organized and well worth the time and money!” Pictures from the event:
