In the News-August 2008

A great story from ReShon Anderson, CEO, Angel Handbags:   "I am a member of an online entrepreneur's community called Launchers Café .  On July 23, they sent an email out to the group saying that they knew of a national TV show that needed entrepreneurs in the NY metro area that started their businesses in hard times for a show they were taping.  I replied with my story and told them that even though I wasn't local to the NY area, I could easily take a train or plane up there. What happened after I sent that email was a complete whirlwind!  Not even two hours after I sent the email, a producer from CNBC called me and wanted me to send her a bio and headshots....I later found out that she was the producer for The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch, which is absolutely one of my favorite shows on TV!  I watch it nearly every night!  She called back and confirmed that she wanted me on the show and that I would be filmed from a satellite location in DC...the show was shooting the next day at 1:30pm!!  The folks at the studio in DC were great...they treated me like royalty.  For the show taping, I was told to give a brief summary of my business and ask Donny a question, which I did...but, what I didn't expect was for Donny to ask me a question back.  While asking my question, I mentioned that I had started my business after being laid off and Donny wanted to know what gave me the courage to do that!  I got slightly more airtime than the other entrepreneurs as a result, and I left the studio on a natural high.  I found out as I was leaving the studio, that the show would air the same night, so as soon as I got home I was frantically emailing friends and family to tell them to watch.  It was an incredible couple of days, and I am so grateful for the exposure and the experience.  I am still working on getting a copy of my portion of the show to post on the web...as soon as I get it, I will make sure the folks at the WBC have the link to post on the site!"     Angel Handbags was established in November of 2007, as an online retailer of designer handbags with a focus on selling newer, up-and-coming designers in addition to more established brands.  We believe this mix gives consumers a taste of the brands they've come to love over the years as well as newer brands they will come to love in the future...it's the best of both worlds!  We also aim to make our customer's shopping experience the best possible by giving them tons of additional features when they register with us, like:  Rate a handbag you own, create a wishlist, track your orders, print receipts, track gift certificate balances and so much more!         And this, from This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , CPCC, of Apply Within ~ Work-Life Integration Coaching for Parents and The Enterprising Moms ~ Growing Businesses While Growing Families (SM),  "I was featured in a piece in mid June on News4 about helping parents deal with stress in tough economic times." Here's a link to the story.  Carolyn adds, "If you know of any stressed out parents, be sure to send them my way :-)"      Sinplicity Ice Cream flavors Wicked Wasabi with Grand Marnier, Lemon Ginger Sorbet (with Jamaican Rum), and Perfectly Pomegranate, were featured in the Washington Post Food Section on July 2. Longtime CBP client and Falls Church Chef, Leland Atkinson, CEO of Sinplicity, whose premium ice creams are 17 percent fat, more than most premium or super-premium ice creams was quoted as saying, "If it had more (fat), we'd need to call it frozen butter."  Sinplicity Ice Creams are available at Balducci's and select Whole Foods Markets in Virginia.   Kathleen Benson, Founder and President, Office Remedies, Inc. (ORI), a survey research firm specializing in custom research studies and analysis projects, was named one of Washington SmartCEO Magazine's 25 Bravo! Women Business Achievement Award recipients. She accepted the award at the July 10th celebration and was profiled in the magazine's July issue.
